Keeping a Journal
The Importance of Recording Your Animal’s Journey
Everything our animal communicates tells a story about how they are feeling, how they are doing. The healing is in all the details. It is tricky sometimes I think to heal your own animal as you see them every day and some things they show you, may be labelled as “just them, they have always done this”. But with another person’s eyes, these are clues about potential imbalance in the mind, body, spirit connection.
Time of Day
When chronic cases come my way, logging what the animal is telling us daily against the 24-hour clock is beneficial. I am interested in behavior, whether frightened, aggressive or licking paws or scratching. Anything that exhibits unease is recorded against the time of day. Bathroom habits, purging, all of it. I am interested in what the animal ate, if they ate, or if they asked for food earlier or more later. Did they hesitate to eat? Photos of food if they say “no”. Again, what are they telling us throughout the day about their mind, body, spirit connection.
All this wonderful information helps me, help the pet owner to help the animal. It helps us navigate what organ may be under stress and what changes are occurring. Each of us is tied to the planet and to all her rhythm’s so a lot of upset happens from 19.00 onward as this is when the body is trying to calibrate and then clean and repair in the wee hours of the morning. Again, everything tells a story.
Photos & Videos
Photos and videos are extremely important in this process, as I see a lot of things perhaps the pet owner does not due to them being so close to the situation. And also, a pet owner’s terminology may translate very differently to what I am seeing description wise.
For the pet owners, who are doing the recording, it is work. But for me as the reader, I can see what the animal is saying. It is beyond valuable. We constantly adjust based on the changes and communication the body, mind and spirit express.
In general, each animal should have a log dedicated to their well-being. It is to record about what you are witnessing if there is any imbalance, what the animal is communicating, and what was done to try and help them rebalance. The log should contain your thoughts and feelings too as this is your inner guidance system and is full of wonderful information. Who you contacted, and the outcome. And how you and your animal were both treated is also very important.
Each of our animals has their dedicated log. It is started as soon as they arrive, and continues their lifetime.
Patterns Can Be Seen
Journaling helps us see patterns, and also highlights when things have been perhaps going on longer than one thought. It also provides valuable history to anyone who may help you heal your animal.
Vet Records
These are important to receive every year. These are not your invoices, or what the vet has given you on check-out, but their internal notes. These are very important because all the details are recorded about what they see, and what they have done to the animal. Pet owners are not getting this information and there is a lot of information in these records such as injection sites. My suggestion is to always obtain them, read them, question them, make sure you understand fully the data and information reported about your animal.
